BECA Commercial Flooring
"Our Symphony Place project on the 28th and 29th floors could not have been done on budget and on time without Maxxon’s turnkey deep fill applicator program. This quick start project had to install while we were currently overbooked. Maxxon was able to procure the needed materials quickly while utilizing their partner applicator for installation. They were able to handle all the difficult logistics seamlessly. End result was a great performing product and installation with our very satisfied customer. This was a win / win for everyone involved. Great job Maxxon."
James Smith - BECA Commercial Flooring
When BECA, a commercial flooring contractor, took on the renovation of Symphony Place's 28th and 29th floors, they faced a critical constraint: strict weight limitations on the building's top two floors. With an average pour of 3 inches needed across approximately 4,000 square feet, traditional concrete solutions would have exceeded structural capacity. BECA needed a lightweight alternative that could handle deep pours without compromising the building's integrity.
BECA partnered with All South Flooring, a Maxxon distributor, and Structis, a Maxxon applicator, to implement a proven two-part system:
This combination delivered the required depth and performance without exceeding structural load limits.
The project presented several logistical challenges that required creative solutions:
Material Logistics: Moving 16 pallets of material to the top floors via a freight elevator that was constantly in use by crews working on 12-13 other floors simultaneously.
Equipment Efficiency: The crew originally planned to manually barrel-mix materials using five hippos at once—a time-consuming and labor-intensive approach. Using a mid-sized continuous pump appropriate for the project, Structis eliminated this bottleneck, reducing both labor costs and installation time.
Active Construction Environment: Work continued on multiple floors during installation. The team coordinated carefully to protect freshly poured floors, even as other trades moved through the space.
Results That Speak for Themselves
Total Project Duration: Just 6 days to complete both floors—4,000 square feet with 3-inch average depth.
The success on the 28th floor led directly to the bid being awarded for the 29th floor as well.
This project exemplifies how effective communication and coordination between BECA, Structis, Maxxon and the Maxxon distributor drove successful outcomes. From logistics planning and material pumping to technical consultation with Maxxon representatives, every stakeholder worked together to solve challenges as they arose. The result: a smooth installation and deep fill that met stringent weight requirements while maintaining an aggressive timeline.
